Happy Monday! Let this smoothie welcome you back to the working week.
I had some cherries left from making my birthday muffins. Ben kindly pitted them for me, and I froze them. Perfect for making a yummy high protein smoothie!
Mmm…I love this smoothie! Fruity, chocolatey and healthy. What’s not to like?!
Cherries are really good for you. They are high in antioxidants and contain melatonin to help you sleep. They have been shown to reduce uric acid, related to gout. Tart cherry juice is used by some athletes to reduce inflammation related to muscle soreness after a work out.
Raw Cacao powder is simply the seed of the cacao plant, ground down to a powder. In it’s processed form it is used to make chocolate, so of course, cocoa powder can be substituted.
Raw cacao powder, know as the ‘food of the Gods’ is highly nutritious, with high levels of antioxidants, as well as magnesium and eating it boosts serotonin to make you happier! Read more in my post on healthy chocolate truffles.
- 80g cherries, pitted and frozen
- 100ml yogurt drink or vegan alternative
- 75g firm silken tofu
- 10g or 1 scoop vanilla or chocolate protein powder
- 5g raw cacao powder (you could use cocoa powder)
Simply put all the ingredients into a food processor or blender and blitz until smooth. Sprinkle over some cacao nibs or a small amount of dark grated chocolate.
I made another one, and froze it overnight in a bottle. I took it to the gym, and it was gorgeous after a tough work out.
